ON THIS DAY: ZAMBOANGA SIEGE
On Sept. 9, 2013, Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) forces occupied Zamboanga City, taking civilians hostage and clashing with government forces in a siege that lasted 21 days.
38 people, including 20 soldiers, five policemen, and 13 civilians were killed.
