‼️ LOOK: VISAYAS GRID PLACED UNDER RED ALERT FROM 1 PM TO 10 PM
The Visayas Grid is set to be placed under Red Alert from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. today, September 3, 2026, as available power supply falls short of projected peak demand.
According to the latest grid status update as of 8:00 a.m., the Visayas Grid has an available capacity of 2,187 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,575 MW.
Prior to the Red Alert period, the grid will be under Yellow Alert from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will return to Yellow Alert from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The alert conditions are attributed to several factors, including the unavailability of the Visayas' large coal-fired power plants TVI 1 and PEDC 3, as well as limited or unavailable power imports from Mindanao.
The grid operator also reported multiple power plants operating under forced outage or derated capacities. Six plants went on forced outage in September, while additional plants have remained unavailable since previous months and years. Meanwhile, 16 plants are operating at derated capacities, resulting in a total of 792 MW of capacity unavailable to the grid.
A Red Alert is declared when available power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid's regulating requirement.
A Yellow Alert, meanwhile, is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
Consumers are encouraged to remain updated on official grid advisories and to practice responsible electricity use, particularly during peak demand hours.
